Call for experienced business people to volunteer as Mentors for SMEs - It is about Small, Medium and Micro Businesses helping each other to succeed

Business Minister Mark Prisk today called on experienced business people to get involved in Get Mentoring, a new project led by the Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative (SFEDI), to recruit and train 10,000 volunteer business mentors from the small, medium and micro business community in order to help the next generation of SMEs to grow and prosper.  Get Mentoring will be funded through new grant funding of £1.2m.

The 10,000 volunteers recruited and trained through Get Mentoring are additional to the 5,000 mentors already announced by the Home Secretary on 4th November. A range of private sector project partners including Institute of Directors, British Chambers of Commerce, Federation of Small Businesses and the Federation of Private Business are providing further support and time contributions worth up to an estimated £3.7m .  Once trained, these new volunteer business mentors will be accessible through www.mentorsme.co.uk.

Business Minister, Mark Prisk, said:“Businesses tell us they want to get advice from other experienced business people and we know that those seeking support are more likely to succeed. Building a relationship with a mentor can have a positive effect on your business, whether you are just starting up or are already established. Boosting the number of mentors will help more businesses get this valuable help and broaden the range of experienced people available through the mentoring network.”

Why get mentoring? You will be playing a key role in  helping businesses to grow, this is where UK's long-term prosperity resides.  We need you to be involved in this process.
